Formula Checker

The formula analyzer is a 100% Notion tool, built with Notion and for Notion's users.

It allows you to quickly analyze a formula to extract some essential information for ease of construction, performance or simplification.

This is a quick and easy to use tool to help with thinking. It comes with its qualities and its defects.

Who is this tool for ?

I created it primarily for my own use. When creating complex formulas using many different properties, it became difficult for me to see clearly the dependencies to other properties: Which properties were being used? Which ones were not used anymore? How many times were they called? Can I simplify the database by integrating the contents of other properties into the formula, or is it better to keep a frequently reused part of my formula in a separate property?

The formula analyzer was essentially designed to help me answer these questions.

If I share it, it's because there may be formula aficionados like me who can benefit from it. The tool might be useful for you, especially if your formulas are built on the fly and are more and more complex.

What information does the formula analyzer provide ?

Once you have entered a formula, you will be shown the following information:

• The number of characters in the formula
• If there are any, the number of different functions used in the formula and the number of times (total) they are called.
• If any, the total number of properties called.
• If any, details of functions called (function name → number of calls for that function)
• If applicable, list of all properties called (in order of appearance in the formula)
• If at least one property name to be tested is filled in, a ✅ or ❌ symbol will be appended next to the property name and the number of times this property is called will be shown in parentheses
